DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 7, 2014) - After sitting out much of the 2013 season with injuries, former AMA Pro Flat Track champion Sammy Halbert is healthy and ready to kick off 2014 at the season-opening doubleheader March 13-14 in Daytona Beach, Florida. Halbert is the all-time winningest rider at the flat track at Daytona International Speedway, with three wins since the track's inaugural race in 2010. Nobody else has won at the track twice, let alone three times like Halbert.
"I'm excited to be heading back to the track that accounts for a quarter of my Grand National wins," said Halbert, who has won twelve Grand Nationals so far in his career. "It would be great to sweep both nights, like I did in 2011, especially after watching from the sidelines last year following knee surgery."
Halbert will race Daytona aboard his Yamaha Racing/Fredericktown Yamaha/Vans Yamaha/Millennium Technologies supported YZ450F. Halbert's teammate for the doubleheader will be his older brother Jethro, who will be racing one of Sammy's Yamahas with additional support from Drew Massa Transportation.
"We're a close knit family, so being teammates with my brother means a lot to me," continued Halbert. "Sweeping Daytona and sharing the podium with Jethro would be like a dream come true. Hopefully we can make it happen."
