Began riding a motorcycle at three years old and racing at four on a Yamaha PW 50. Racing became his favorite sport right off the bat and soon veered away from most other sports. Until he was about seven years old, he was only taught by his father. Around the age of seven, Ryan met the Rispoli family, and soon after became part of the CoolSkunk Team. Thereafter, he was trained by his dad, Phil and James. When he started riding the 85s, he won his first championships at the AMA Amateur Grand Championships for 85 DTX, 85 MOD, and one of his greatest achievements, the AMA Youth Dirt Tracker of the Year. After the 85 class, Ryan continued to race locally while moving up to the 250cc class. At 13 years old, he started racing his 450cc in the Canadian series. At age 14, he went back to the 2010 AMA Amateur Nationals and won the 250cc two-stroke MOD and 450cc DTX AMA Grand National Championships. The following year, he earned his Canadian pro license and began training for the 2012 AMA Pro Flat Track season. After finishing the season in seventh place, Wells returns for 2013 with Waters Auto Body/Project K Racing.
