Elena Myers wins Second Annual DRIFT BigM Superbike Super Celebrity Mega Kart Showdown
NEWS May 25, 2012
From Pros to Heroes: AMA Pro Road Racing riders from all classes had the opportunity to race against each other, the stars of World Superbike, some local celebrities and members of the Army National Guard in this year’s Drift BigM Superbike Super Celebrity Mega Cart showdown.
Representing AMA Pro Road Racing were stars Josh Hayes, Ben Bostrom, Roger Hayden, Danny Eslick, Robertino Pietri, Elena Myers and Kyle Wyman.
“It’s awesome out here at Miller doing the Kart race,” Eslick said. “We’ve got a member of the military, a reporter, fan and rider. It’s nice being able to mingle with all the race supporters.”
The brisk wind from the Great Salt Lake combined with over a dozen sharp turns to provide a challenge for this year’s diverse group of teams. Elena Myers came out of the gate swinging, posting competitive times immediately.
“I’m having fun, and stepping up my game from last year where I kind of sucked,” Myers commented before the race. “My team seems ready to win this thing.”
After the afternoon practice round, AMA Pro rider Ben Bostrom had to make a kart change which would eventually prove to be a solid decision. Strategy was tough in this race where frequent spinouts, heavy dust and bump drafting became the norm. In this four-legged race, the top time was taken from each driver to give each team an average score and Myers anchored her team by earning the fastest time and leading the team to a first-place finish. Team Bostrom finished a close second.
