Rain, Lightning And A Last Row Start Position Proves To Be The Perfect Combination For Motorcycle-Superstore.com AMA Pro SuperBike Pilot

MEDFORD, Ore. (September 26, 2012) – Round 11 of the GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing Championships in Homestead-Miami Speedway produced an exciting weekend of racing and a second-place podium finish for Steve Rapp and his Attack Performance/Motorcycle-Superstore.com/LeoVince SuperBike team.

The penultimate round of the AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Series started out a bit rough for Rapp. A late arrival on Friday meant Steve could not participate in practice and qualifying rounds and his first look at the track would be on Saturday morning, confirming that his start position would now be from the last row in the final spot. Come race time, his luck didn’t improve much as a mechanical gremlin ended his day on the first lap of the race.

Hope was on the horizon, though, for Rapp on Sunday, as was a lightning storm, a rain delayed event and another back row start. At this stage, most riders were scrambling to determine on which tires they would race as others were deciding if they would even participate under the wet conditions. “I came here to race,” claimed Rapp. “It was a gamble that the track would eventually dry out throughout the 23 lap event, fortunately our team picked the correct tires. We basically passed the entire field, except for Josh Hayes, and brought the Attack Performance ZX-10R in for our best finish of the season. It was a pretty exciting race for us, especially under these conditions.”

Rapp’s last place to second place finish was amazing to watch as he picked off rider after rider eventually tracking down Geoff May, Josh Herrin and then Ben Bostrom for the second spot with only two laps remaining. “It was sketchy out there, you could see the lanes virtually drying up in front of you,” said Rapp. “I’m glad we survived it and finally put our sponsors up on the podium. We have one race left, maybe we can reach that top step in NOLA.”
