DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 16, 2013) - Tomas Puerta (No. 12 RoadRace Factory Yamaha YZF-R6) and Stefano Mesa (No. 37 Motosport.com Tucker Rocky Yamaha YZF-R6) led a Colombian charge that looked sharper than ever at Daytona International Speedway last month when the Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport season kicked off with two races packed to the brim with intense racing action featuring GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing’s young and rising talent.

At the conclusion of Race 1, it was Mesa that outlasted a fury of riders gunning for the checkered flag, resulting in a photo finish. Six riders were all .274 seconds or less off the lead when the group passed the finish line for the final time. With the win, Mesa and his Motosport.com Yamaha proved he is still a heavy favorite as he begins his fourth consecutive season in Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport competition.

Though Race 2 was a little less dramatic than Race 1 at the end, Puerta still had to fight extremely hard for his victory. The RoadRace Factory Yamaha pilot was able to pull away from the pack late and seal his first victory of the 2013 GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing season by just over a full second.

“It was a huge win for me and also for my team at Daytona last month,” said Puerta. “It’s been great to work with the RoadRace Factory crew this season and I’m really excited to be working with my dad, Mick and Danny Walker this year! The crew and I have really benefited from each other and I can feel us clicking on all cylinders right now. I can’t thank everyone else enough that has contributed to putting this team together. I’m really looking forward to what the rest of the season holds for us.”

Puerta and Mesa bring an international flair to the Motorcycle-Superstore SuperSport division. With Road America right around the corner, expect these out-of-towners to continue their reign of terror among the SuperSport paddock as they look to make an immediate impact during Round 2 in Elkhart Lake, Wis. on May 31-June 2.
