DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 6, 2013) – As if every National Guard SuperBike race wasn’t high stakes enough already, Josh Hayes needed to be flawless at Road America. The Gulfport, Mississippi product found himself 48 points off the lead after uncharacteristic mechanical issues during Round 1 action at Daytona resulted in two DNFs and added to his sense of urgency to make up lost ground. With the possibility of his fourth consecutive championship in the elite class hanging in the balance, Hayes left himself very little margin for error heading into Elkhart Lake, Wis. However, the three-time king clearly took a liking to having his back against the wall as he went on to earn pole position, lead the most laps, and most importantly, come out victorious on both occasions in route to a perfect points weekend and unequivocally putting his name back atop the discussions of potential 2013 National Guard SuperBike championship contenders.

“It felt great to come back after a disappointing performance at Daytona,” said Hayes. “I have complete confidence in my crew and I realize it’s going to be an uphill battle for us the rest of the way after digging a hole at Daytona but I think it’s something we can overcome. There are a lot of very strong competitors in the National Guard SuperBike class this year and I look forward to battling it out with them again in a couple weeks at Barber.”

Clean sweeps have been a common occurrence for Hayes in recent seasons, as the No. 1 Monster Energy Graves Yamaha R1 rider collected 16 wins out of 20 races in 2012 on his way to arguably one of the most impressive seasons in GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing history.

Next up, the stars of the sport will match up at Barber Motorsports Park for the Triumph SuperBike Classic presented by America’s First Federal Credit Union on June 21-23. Last year, Hayes set the track record for fastest race times and claimed two victories in dominating fashion at the immaculate venue.
