Cypress, CA - September 23, 2013 – The aptly named New Jersey Lottery Devil’s Showdown was precisely that--a showdown between Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha teammates Josh Herrin and Josh Hayes. Herrin and Hayes came into New Jersey ranked first and third, respectively, in the AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Championship points standings, and they left the Garden State now ranked first and second. But, it was far from a “garden variety” race weekend for either rider.

In Saturday’s Race 1, it was a dogfight all the way to the checkers. Both Herrin and Hayes suffered uncharacteristically poor starts, and then, the race was red-flagged and had to be restarted, which made for an abbreviated, but exciting, sprint to the finish line. Hayes was the first rider to take the checkers, but he was assessed a five-second penalty for “anticipating the start,” which handed the win to Herrin and shuffled Hayes back to fourth place in the final results. Herrin capitalized on Hayes’ misfortune and gained valuable points in his quest to win his first-ever AMA Pro Racing and SuperBike Championship.

Meanwhile, in Sunday’s Race 2, three-time and defending SuperBike Champion Josh Hayes showed why he has the #1 on his Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha YZF-R1 by shaking off more than his fair share of weekend adversity to win over teammate Herrin and put himself into second place in the points standings, with a legitimate shot to win an unprecedented fourth title in a row at the weekend’s final race of the AMA Pro Racing SuperBike season, in a single-race shootout at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

In this video recap of the past weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park, Herrin talks about his weekend and his thoughts about being poised on the threshold of winning the 2013 SuperBike Championship. You’ll also see some of the on-track action with commentary by legendary CBS Sports Network race announcer Paul Page, and meet Monster Energy Umbrella Girls Cassidy and Tara.
