Monterey, CA - September 29, 2013 – Since joining Yamaha in 2005, Josh Herrin has won race after race aboard his YZF-R6 and YZF-R1, and dreamed about bringing home a Championship for the triple-tuning-forks brand. On Sunday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Herrin accomplished his goal. The 23-year-old rider from Dublin, Georgia, finished second in the final SuperBike race of the 2013 AMA Pro Racing season, which earned him more than enough points to win the title.

The winner of the race was Herrin’s Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha teammate, three-time AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Champion Josh Hayes. Hayes notched his 8th SuperBike victory of the season, taking the checkers more than 13 seconds ahead of the rest of the field, and he finished the season second in total Championship points.

Third place went to Foremost Insurance/Pegram Racing/Yamaha rider Larry Pegram, who matched his season-opening result at Daytona International Speedway, to complete a Yamaha podium sweep.

When asked about his freshly minted Championship, Herrin said, “I think the best word to describe my season is 'consistency.' We were really consistent all year. At the beginning of the year, I wasn't even thinking about the Championship. We were fortunate at Daytona, but I figured Josh would come back, and he did. But, at the same time, we were smart and rode really consistent, and it paid off in the end. Overall, it went great.”

“This has been a lifelong dream of mine,” Herrin continued, “And it's finally come true. I can't even explain the emotions right now. Coming around on that last lap, I just filled up with tears. I could barely see where I was going. I've never felt that kind of emotion before. It's crazy, the emotions you feel when you achieve something that you've been hoping to do your whole life.”

After his Sunday win, Hayes said, “It was a great weekend. This is two good Laguna Seca’s this year for me. I've had a great season, and I'm proud of the things I've accomplished. My statistics are good. I was able to get eight pole positions. I think I've gotten all the poles except two in three years, which is a pretty amazing run. It's fun to be fast. And I had a good run of races this year.”

About his teammate’s SuperBike Championship, the Triple Champ said, “I really think the story today is Josh winning his #1 plate. He did what he needed to do and, when the pressure was on, he stepped up.”
