Monterey, CA. (Oct 7, 2013) – BP Racing’s Sebastiao Ferreira and CJ Weaver took home a 16th and 18th, place finish, respectively, in their first Geico AMA GoPro Daytona Sportbike class race, at the US World Superbike event at Laguna Seca Raceway.
Team Owner Mike Hammett “We are proud to announce that we have upgraded electronics with the help of Chuck Graves and Graves Motorsports this past weekend to start getting ready for the Daytona SportBike class for next year. We are extremely pleased with the upgrade and the close support of Graves Motorsports. We had great pace and ran faster this weekend than our previous race in July.”
Manager Ken Chewey commented “We had a get off in qualifying 2 but were able, with the help of Graves Motorsport’s YES crew, to get the bike back together and make it out for the race.”
“The weekend started off great I felt real good coming into Laguna and was really excited to be racing in the Daytona SportBike class. I got my first look my new dashboard and electronics late Thursday night and was excited to take it out for the first practice session on Friday. Qualifying 1 went well but had some issues with edge grip. In qualifying 2 I had a pretty bad highside and came back a little sore and beat up. My crew chief Ken Chewey and Eric Dorn of EDR quickly put the bike back together in time for the morning warm up. I had some great battles, dropped lap times, and now know what the team needs to do in the offseason to prepare for next year. My team worked hard for me as always, I went faster than I did in previous years, and I now know what it will take to run up in the front with the rest of the field. I would like to thank everyone for all the hard work that was put in.” comments Sebastiao Ferreira.
CJ Weaver states “This class was intense, when they hit the track there is no getting up to speed they are on it from the start of practice until the checkered flag. I would like to thank the AMA for this opportunity for a preview run to see if I am ready to move up to this class. I also want to thank BP Racing for believing in me and making me a part of their program. This weekend I ran number 53 in honor of David Stanton. It is pretty cool running his number, since I have looked up to him, and all of his accomplishments” I pray that I was able to bring some light to Dave Stanton’s injuries and others will be able to contribute to his medical bills, and I made him proud to see his number out there.”
