#42 Bryan Smith overcame early bike issues on his Crosley Radio/Howerton Motorsports Kawasaki which kept him out of the his heat race and, subsequently, the Dash for Cash. Smith won the semi race on his backup bike and made his way through the 18 rider Main Event. At the midway point of the race, a used tear-off became trapped on Smith's throttle. As he tried to remove it coming out of turn 4, he accidentally hit the kill switch causing #95 JD Beach, #5 Jake Johnson, #2 Kenny Coolbeth and #12 Brad Baker to narrowly avoid each other as they tucked in, wheel to wheel, to catch the draft. The heart stopping incident allowed #44 Brandon Robinson to break the chase pack, and win by over five seconds. Smith regrouped and led the chasing pack of Harley-Davidson XR750 and Kawasaki race bike across the line to finish second.
